It is once again time for Appleby's round-up of significant decisions handed down by the courts of our various jurisdictions in the preceding year. I am pleased to attach the latest issue, looking back on 2017. It is compiled by members of our Dispute Resolution Group in Bermuda, the British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, Guernsey, the Isle of Man, Jersey and Mauritius, and is presented as usual by topic rather than by jurisdiction, identifying themes across the jurisdictions and comparing how the different courts approach them.

We do not attempt to cover everything: we have selected decisions that we think will be of wider interest, because they change or clarify the law, deal with an issue for the first time or, for example, deal with a point that may arise in other jurisdictions. Even on that selective basis we cover some 50 decisions, ranging from first-instance interlocutory decisions, all the way through to decisions of the Privy Council. They include some interesting cases on litigation funding, schemes of arrangement, directors' duties, mistakes in trust administration and many other topics. The summaries are organised into five broad areas: Civil Procedure; Companies, Insolvency and Restructuring, Fund Disputes and Trust Disputes.
