The 2020 rankings from Chambers Asia-Pacific have been released, and Blumenthal Richter & Sumet has achieved rankings in Real Estate and Technology, Media, Telecoms (“TMT”) in Thailand. In both categories, our firm has been ranked among the top eight law firms in the country.

In the editorial accompanying the rankings, in the Real Estate category, Chambers describes our firm as “especially active on the acquisition and development of hotel and resort properties.” Blumenthal Richter & Sumet has “frequent instructions from developers, investors and property owners” and “often represents international clients on inbound projects, including joint ventures,” it continues.

In the TMT category, the editorial quotes a client who describes our firm’s service as “high quality” and appreciates that the team “understands the international context as well as the Thai and regional context.” It cites another source as saying, “they are responsive and give commercially astute advice, rather than just black letter law advice.” “Established TMT department with significant expertise relating to IT and telecommunications matters,” the editorial continues. “Provides expert assistance with IT contracts and system integration, software development, cloud and data privacy matters, acting for clients in the engineering, manufacturing and media sectors” and “well placed to advise on e-commerce and broadcasting matters” are further comments the editorial makes, as well as “regularly works with international law firms to advise on cross-border matters.”

In addition to these firm rankings, Sumet Mingmongkolmitr, Senior Partner and head of our Tax team, and John P. Formichella, Partner and head of our TMT team, achieved individual rankings as leading practitioners for Tax and TMT, respectively, in Thailand.

The Chambers rankings are determined through an assessment of law firms’ submissions, client feedback and independent market research. Chambers have a team of over 200 researchers who conduct thousands of interviews in more than 20 languages. Factors such as client service, commercial vision and business understanding, diligence, value for money and depth of team (ensuring strong support at all levels) are considered.
