Following the Maltese President's visit to Croatia at the end of February 2018, it has been announced that Croatian nationals no longer need to apply for a work permit to work in Malta.

Even though Croatia has been a full member of the European Union since 2013, prior to February 2018, Croatian nationals had to apply for a work permit in Malta, which process was distinct and different to that used by 3rd country nationals.

It is understood that the European Union has been notified by the Maltese Government that the restrictions for Croatian nationals are being rescinded and that moving forward there will not be a need for Croatian nationals to apply for a work permit, however an application for an e-residence card is encouraged.
