Clement Mifsud-Bonnici was engaged as a National Rapporteur for Malta in a pan European study on the cross-border recognition of official documents relating to inheritance matters.

The Succession Regulation requires that every Member State recognises and gives effect to the evidentiary status of succession authentic instruments as they would enjoy in their Member State of origin. The Regulation provides rules on cross-border inheritances and applies to those who die on or after 17 August 2015.

National Rapporteurs from each Member State were engaged to write a report on the evidentiary status of documents issued by that Member State. These reports were compiled by the University of Aberdeen (Scotland) which was commissioned by the European Parliament to do so. The coordinators of the study also made recommendations for best practice.
