The Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoLE) invited public comments, opinions and feedback on the draft wage code it published on its website on November 1, 2019. The new labour law is in form of Code comprising of four set of laws in consolidated form that would amend existing framework on labour law of India
Code on Wages, 2019
This is consolidation of Equal Remuneration Act, 1976, Payment of Wages Act, 1936, the Payment of Bonus Act, 1965 and Minimum Wages Act, 1948. The key changes under the Wage Code are related to definition of term "wages", "employer and employee" and "floor wage"
Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2019
This regulates health and safety conditions in establishments with 10 or more workers and substitute the Contract Labour (Regulation and Abolition) Act, 1970 and Factories Act, 1948.
Industrial Relations Code, 2019
This intends to consolidate three labour laws -Trade Unions Act, 1926, Industrial Employment (Standing Orders) Act, 1946 and Industrial Disputes Act, 1947.
Code on Social Security, 2019
It seeks to substitute 9 social security laws such as Employees State Insurance Act, 1948, Maternity Benefit Act, 1961 and EPF Act.
