Justice Nariman and Justice Bhat of the Supreme Court dismissed two appeals and connected intervention applications pertaining to the determination of fantasy sport game Dream 11. The appeals were filed challenging the decisions of the Bombay High Court which dismissed three PIL's in lieu of the well-reasoned judgment of the High Court of Punjab and Haryana in the case of Varun Gumber v. UT of Chandigarh & Ors. where it was held that Dream 11 was a game of skill not chance. The Courts reasoning was based on players of Dream 11 having to thoroughly assess players, evaluate their worth on an objective basis, factor in the players' anticipated statistics thereby gaining superior knowledge, judgment and attention which requires a level of skill. The Supreme Court found no reason to interfere with the orders passed by the Bombay High Court, which has now removed all ambiguities pertaining to the classification of Dream 11 as a game of skill or chance.
