As Guernsey formally joins the United Nations global network; Finance Centres, for Sustainability (FC4S), its senior politician has backed Guernsey's commitment on green finance initiatives.

Gavin St Pier, Guernsey's Chief Minister, said: "Guernsey is at the early stages of development of green and sustainable finance but our ambitions are big and I am proud that Guernsey has committed to the Casablanca principles developed by the United Nations, supporting strategic action on green and sustainable finance. The Guernsey Green Finance Group will enable us to take a broad strategic approach as a jurisdiction to the development of green and sustainable finance."

Dr Andy Sloan, Deputy Chief Executive, Strategy, at Guernsey Finance, and Chair of the Guernsey Green Finance Group, commenting on the approach said: "Our goal is to be at the forefront of the development of green and sustainable finance. Key to our success will be engagement with global public policy groups and learning from other leading centres such as Paris, London and Shanghai. By working together, the closeness and connectedness of our stakeholders should help us accelerate our development."

Dominic Wheatley, Chief Executive, added: "Guernsey's innovative approach has enabled it to rapidly pioneer development in response to significant world demand for green product. In less than six months we have launched the world first regulated green investment fund and registered the first fund; launched a green finance segment on The International Stock Exchange; and published a thought-provoking paper on proposals for development of green insurance products.

Guernsey Finance, the promotional industry for the island's financial services sector, is hosting a seminar this week providing a detailed briefing on the Guernsey Green Fund, the world's first regulated green investment fund on 28 November at the Eight Club in the City of London. Guernsey Green Finance will be formally launched on island during the week of 7 January, 2019.
