Annemarie Hughes and Donna Matthews, members of Dougherty Quinn's specialist trust team, attended the Transcontinental Trusts Conference in Geneva. The conference was held on 19 & 20 June 2013 and included presentations covering the key updates in the trust world, information exchange, jurisdictional overviews and regulation for growth.

The conference was attended by the leading trust law experts from around the world including Chief Justice Anthony Smellie of the Cayman Islands. The event is regarded as the premier event for trust practitioners internationally.

Donna Matthews commented:

"Each year, DQ's specialist trust team attends this renowned conference where the industry's key players gather to hear the latest developments in trust law from across the globe. It was a stimulating and rewarding two days. Our specialist team has experienced significant growth in the last two years and the Isle of Man remains well placed as an attractive jurisdiction of choice for HNWIs for trusts and foundations."

The Isle of Man Courts are becoming increasingly important and active in the international trust arena as they continue to develop international trust law. For example, please see our recent note on the Isle of Man Court's clarification of the right of a trust protector to an indemnity.
